RI TO CONTINUE ACTIVE ROLE IN MULTILATERAL DIPLOMACY: FOREIGN MINISTER

Jakarta - Indonesia will continue to put a great deal of efforts into multilateral diplomacy this year,  Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa said here on Friday.

Delivering his annual press statement in the ministry`s Nusantara Room, Natalegawa said, like other nations, Indonesia  would in its foreign policy in 2010 remain in a position where it would not be able to ignore whatever external conditions  might arise.

The international community was likely to be confronted by various complex problems as had happened in 2009, when it had  to face all sorts of challenges, from multidimensional crises to global pandemics, all happening at the same time., he said.

"The trans-border nature of the multidimensional challenges implies that solutions can only by found through  international cooperation because even a superpower will not be able to overcome them alone," Natalegawa said.

He said Indonesia would in 2010 strive to improve its role in bridging various societal differences among nations.

"Our foreign policy will consistently be focused on the solution of various global challenges," Natalegawa said.

"Our efforts to bridge various differences among nations will be made not only in the context of the United Nations but  also in other multilateral forums in which Indonesia is playing an active role," Natalegawa said.
