Jakarta - Culture and Tourism Minister Jero Wacik will present a Visit Indonesia Year (VIY 2008) pin to Microsoft founder Bill Gates when the latter attends the Asia-Pacific Government Leaders Forum 2008 here on May 7-9, 2008, a tourism ministry official said.
"We are going to host a banquet for Bill Gates and on the occasion Minister Jero Wacik will present him with a Visit Indonesia Year 2008 pin," Director General of Marketing at the Culture and Tourism Ministry Sapta Nirwandar said here on Tuesday.
He said the gesture would be meant to underscore the fact that a noted figure like Bill Gates was willing and not afraid to visit Indonesia.
"The presentation of the pin to Bill Gates is also intended to introduce and promote the Visit Indonesia Year 2008 program to the outside world. In so doing we want to show that Bill Gates is not afraid to come to Indonesia," Sapta said.
Meanwhile, Culture and Tourism Ministry's MICE division director Nia Niscaya said the government would hold a gala dinner and stage cultural performance including an "angklung" concert from West Java, a "sasando" concert from East Nusa Tenggara, a "rindik" musical show from Bali as well as traditional dances.
The event, however, would be closed to newsmen as Bill Gates wanted to relax and enjoy the program, Niscaya said.
