Denpasar - The family planning management to control the population growth in Indonesia in 2009 is on the list of government priority, Family Planning Coordinating Board (BKKBN) spokesman Subagus said here on Tuesday.
"But the priority of family planning management is inseparable from funds, energy, facility, and methods," said Subagus of BKKBN's research and development center.
He said the government's effort to manage the family planning program in the country should be supported by funds and the central government policy in order to be applied at provincial, district, and municipal levels.
"The priority of family planning management covers the methods of contraception, family empowerment, marital age, and reproductive health," Subagus said.
However, he noted that the success of family planning program cannot not be enjoyed in short period of time because it needs about 20 to 30 years.
Subagus said the country's family planning program in the past 30 years was able to prevent the birth of around 80 million babies, and therefore it had a positive impact on other development programs.
Meanwhile, BKKBN deputy chief of family planning and reproductive health Siswanto Agus Wilopo said more than 400 delegates from at least 26 countries and dozens of other international agencies would be present at an International Conference on Reproductive Health Management Emphasis on Familly Planning in Bali from May 6-8.
Some 400 delegates would attend the conference among other things to exchange experience in implementing reproductive health programs in their respective country in order to find ways to get better results, Siswanto Agus Wilopo said.
He said a similar conference was held previously in Manila, the Philippines, in 2006.
He added that discussions in the conference would focus on reproductive health management and critical problems affecting reproductive health programs.
The conference was also being supported by the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA).
